Brisbane genre fans will get a taste of Monster Pictures’ annual Melbourne-based genre film festival MONSTER FEST this May with the MONSTER FEST TRAVELLING SIDESHOW at Event Cinemas Brisbane City Myer Centre on May 12-14, 2017.

Our first wave of programming includes the Brisbane premiere of Sundance sensation, KILLING GROUND, the gritty Australian crime thriller HOUNDS OF LOVE, the Brisbane premiere of creature-feature CAGE DIVE and a 4K restoration of Dario Argento’s classic SUSPIRIA for its 40th anniversary.

KILLING GROUND
Damien Power | Australia 2016 | 85 Minutes | Mushroom Pictures | Brisbane Premiere

When young urbanites Ian and Sam decide to go camping, they arrive at their isolated destination to discover another tent already set up, but no sign of its owners. With the other campers at large, Ian and Sam’s discovery of a child wandering alone sets off a terrifying chain of events that will push them to their limits – and beyond.

SUSPIRIA 40th Anniversary 4K Restoration
Dario Argento | Italy 1977 | 95 Minutes | Umbrella Entertainment | Brisbane Premiere

Dario Argento’s undisputed horror masterpiece is widely considered to be the most shocking and hallucinatory horror movie in history and is described by Argento as “an escalating experimental nightmare”, SUSPIRIA stars Jessica Harper as a young American ballet student who arrives at a prestigious European dance academy and is confronted by a series of bizarre and horrific deaths. Packed with ultra gory effects and dazzling cinematic set pieces, SUSPIRIA is a gruesomely gothic masterpiece of the macabre. A freshly restored Director-approved 4K presentation will screen to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its original release.

HOUNDS OF LOVE
Ben Young | Australia 2016 | 108 Minutes | Label Distribution

Perth. The Summer of ’87.  17 y.o. Vicki Maloney is abducted by a married couple who keep her captive in a suburban house. Though broken and tormented, with escape seeming impossible, Vicki closely observes the perverse dynamic between her captors and realises she must drive a wedge between them if she is to survive.  Ben Young’s award-winning debut feature follows in the Australian true-crime tradition of SNOWTOWN, CHOPPER & THE BOYS, and opens in US cinemas the very same week as it plays MONSTER FEST TRAVELLING SIDESHOW.

CAGE DIVE
Gerald Rascionato | Australia 2017 | 80 Minutes | Odin’s Eye | Brisbane Premiere

Three American college students head down under to capture Great White Sharks on film. But when a freak wave capsizes their boat mid cage dive they are left fighting for and against each other in the world’s most dangerous Shark infested waters.
