After a hiatus in 2015, our industry and educational component The Monster Academy – now dubbed The Swinburne University Media and Communication Monster Academy – returns for two days of panels and workshops related to all aspects of filmmaking from concept through dissemination.

We’ll have a variety of local, national and international speakers looking at festival strategy, the rise of women filmmakers in the genre space, the art of practical FX, historical panels on the Golden Age of Ozploitation and ROMPER STOMPER and case studies for alternative co-production and distribution methods, capped by our keynote masterclass with WAKE IN FRIGHT director Ted Kotcheff, moderated by NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD director Mark Hartley.

Academy panels take place between 10am-5pm at Swinburne University in AGSE 207, with a special screening of Ted Kotcheff’s WAKE IN FRIGHT on Weds Nov 23 at 7pm at Lido Cinema, and  select free afternoon lectures at Lido Cinema Jazz Room on Friday and Saturday afternoon Nov 25th & 26th.

For full Academy program details, schedule, all-access passes and individual tickets, see our 2016 festival site HERE.
