Cult, Horror & Certifiably Cool Film Programming at CAMP PRIDEFLIX In Melbourne

Melbourne’s Pride of our Footscray are presenting a monthly series of cult, horror and certifiably cool film programming, CAMP PRIDEFLIX, hosted by friend of Monster Fest and cinema aficionado Courtex.

Launching May 16 with Paul Verhoeven’s heavily maligned 1995 masterpiece SHOWGIRLS followed June 20 by Lloyd Kaufman’s 2006 comedy-horror POULTRYGEIST: NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD and July 18 with Michael Lehmann’s deliciously macabre 1988 comedy HEATHERS.

SHOWGIRLS
Dir. Paul Verhoeven | USA 1995
Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) has what it takes to make it as a Las Vegas showgirl but needs a way in. To survive, she accepts a lap dancing gig at a seedy club, but when she meets Cristal (Gina Gershon), Vegas’ reigning show queen, Nomi wants everything she has – including her boyfriend! There begins an epic struggle for fame and survival in Sin City.

POULTRYGEIST: NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD
Dir. Lloyd Kaufman | USA 2006
When the American Chicken Bunker, a military themed fast food restaurant, builds its latest chain restaurant on the site of an ancient Native American burial ground, the displaced spirits take revenge on unsuspecting diners and transform them into chicken zombies! Now, it’s up to a dimwitted counter boy, his collegiate lesbian ex-girlfriend and a burqa-wearing fry cook to put an end to the foul feathered menace once and for all.

HEATHERS
Dir. Michael Lehmann | USA 1988
Veronica (Winona Ryder) is part of the most popular clique at her high school, but she disapproves of the other girls’ cruel behavior. When Veronica and her new boyfriend, J.D. (Christian Slater), confront clique leader Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) and accidentally poison her, they make it appear a suicide. Soon Veronica realizes that J.D. is intentionally killing students he does not like. She races to stop J.D. while also clashing with the clique’s new leader, Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty). This exclusive anniversary event will also include Poor Little Heather – a special interview with actress Lisanne Falk (Heather McNamara).
