The competition is open to both amateur and professionals.

Now in its fourth year, the Tasploitation Challenge attracts teams of filmmakers from around the state to Hobart, Tasmania. (Interstate teams are welcome to participate but they must be in Tasmania to do so).

At 7pm on Friday April 7, registered teams will be handed a prompts package that includes a prop, a line of dialogue and a horror subgenre (eg. post-apocalyptic, monster movie, erotic horror) that must be included in their film.  Forty-eight hours later, they’ll deliver their films to be screened at a red-carpet gala awards night on April 13.

There are a swag of prizes to be awarded recognising strengths from technical skills to storytelling to the originality of concept, including cash, VIP passes to Monster Fest, equipment hire from Wide Angle Tasmania, acting lessons from Cooper Screen Academy and books from Cracked and Spineless New and Used Books.

Last year 27 teams created films that were screened to a sellout crowd at Hobart’s City Hall.  The Challenge welcomes participants of all ages and all skills levels. Whether you’re a filmmaker or you’ve never picked up a camera before, get involved!

Teams with a majority of members who are WAT members can access two pieces of equipment for free for the Challenge (up to $500 value). For all the details, head here or contact Wide Angle Tasmania 6223 8344 – or by email.
