Andrew Leavold’s TRASHFEST 2019 Headed to Melbourne!

Everyone’s favourite ambassador of obscure international cult cinema, Andrew Leavold (THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG), is heading to Melbourne on Friday July 5th with a two-hour curated program titled TRASHFEST 2019.

Leavold claims that audiences can “expect a riotous assault on the senses…ESPECIALLY taste! I have prepared a veritable Filmic Freak Show for you of absolute favourite moments, personal and Trash Video audiences alike. Expect trailers, music clips, Bollywood-a-go-go, crazed Evangelical horrors, Turkish rip-offs (like the Turkish Star Wars…made with actual stolen George Lucas footage!), Weird Asia and Africa, and a LOT of disco. And bad kung fu. ALWAYS with the bad, atrociously-dubbed kung fu.

In addition to being a filmmaker and author, Leavold was the founder of Australia’s greatest (and largest) cult video emporium, TRASH VIDEO (1995-2010), and with over thirty years of collecting and sharing film oddities around the world, his latest program is guaranteed to be one of the wildest cinematic experiences you’re ever likely to encounter!

TRASHFEST 2019 will also act as the launch for Leavold’s Kickstarter campaign for his latest venture FILM SAFARI, where he will take small groups of film freaks on guided tours of foreign movie locations.

Bookings for FILM SAFARI Spain and Mexico can be made during the month-long Kickstarter campaign kicking off June 27th; patrons can also help raise funds by pre-purchasing downloads of the Film Safari feature and all kinds of exotic goodies, such as a piece of a Western town, Mexican wrestling masks, Weng Weng bobbleheads and much more. But it doesn’t stop there – future Safaris are planned for Italy, Cambodia, Japan, West Africa, and of course the Philippines!

FILM SAFARI is limited only by our collective imaginations” says Leavold. “There’s definitely a book and film to chronicle the adventures, and maybe even a cable series. And, I’m happy to announce, my next documentary should be finished by next year.”

I’ve spent a lifetime obsessed with movies, and the obsession only keeps getting stronger. So does the love. And I can honestly say, making a living doing what you love, conjuring up new dreams and making those a reality: there’s no greater feeling or reward.

Monster Fest is proud to be partner with Leavold for the Melbourne leg of his TRASHFEST 2019 tour, which will be held at Cinema Nova on Friday July 5th 6:45pm and you can !
