MONSTER FEST 2026 – TRASH DAY!
MONSTER FEST 2026 – TRASH DAY IN PICTURES!
Friday night at Monster Fest 2026 delivered a particularly wild combination of cinematic history, homegrown horror and outrageous short films, with BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL, EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC, THE TALLER THEY COME and TRASHARAMA hitting the screens at Cinema Nova.
BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL took audiences behind the scenes of one of Hollywood’s most notorious sequels, exploring the extraordinary story of John Boorman’s EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC, which also received a rare big-screen outing as part of Friday’s program. Love it or loathe it, Boorman’s much-maligned sequel remains one of the strangest films ever to emerge from a major Hollywood studio, and we were only too happy to give audiences the opportunity to experience it on the big screen.
Meanwhile, TRASHARAMA – Australia’s Nastiest Touring Film Festival brought its own particularly unpleasant brand of entertainment to Monster Fest, beginning with TRASHARAMA PRESENTS: THE TALLER THEY COME, the latest slice of Australian independent genre cinema from filmmaker Andrew Leavold, who joined us for a post-screening Q&A with various cast and crew.
Later, TRASHARAMA director Dick Dale – with help from his exotic assistant, a semi-nude Cameron Doncaster – was on hand to unleash another collection of outrageous, offensive and thoroughly unhinged short films, proving once again that good taste has absolutely no place at Australia’s nastiest touring film festival.
This year’s TRASHARAMA program featured 15 cinematic atrocities from Australia and around the world, including ‘P’ PARTY, BREAD OF THE DEAD, DEMON NUN FUCK 1.0, LATE NIGHT AT VIDEO-SMART, NECROSECTOS, NEVER FINGERBANG A WENDIGO, PEANUTS, SCULLION, SERVED COLD, SHE WOLF FEVER, SPLATTER, SQUEAK, THE HAUNTING OF PLAY HOUSE, THE RESIDUE OF DREAMS and THERAPISSED. A thoroughly disreputable assortment of low-budget lunacy, bad taste, bloodshed and monster molestation from filmmakers with little regard for the boundaries of good taste or common decency.
A huge thank you to Andrew Leavold, Dick Dale and Cameron Doncaster for joining us, to all the filmmakers whose work lit up the screens, and to everyone who came along for another memorable Friday night at Monster Fest.
