Join Us For PUB: THE MOVIE World Premiere & After Party
Only two more hangovers sleeps to go before the latest feature from Andrew Leavold (THE SEARCH FOR WENG WENG), PUB: THE MOVIE, a documentary on Australian music and art icon Fred Negro, has its World Premiere at Melbourne International Film Festival.
Premiering this Friday 12 August 8:30pm at The Astor Theatre in St. Kilda, PUB: THE MOVIE will drive you to drink and thankfully all attendees will receive a free can of Mountain Goat on arrival.
The screening will be followed by an After Party at the St Kilda Bowls Club and all are welcome to come along and bask in the afterglow.
For his new film, director Leavold works off a wealth of archival material – photos, recordings, live performances – to explore the life and times of “the unofficial mayor of St Kilda”, Fred Negro who for decades chronicled the Melbourne rock scene in his weekly Pub comic strip.
Featuring a line-up of local music legends including Tim Rogers (You Am I), Greg Macainsh (Skyhooks), Paul Stewart (Painters and Dockers), PUB: THE MOVIE is a film as loud and delightfully irreverent as its subject.
PUB: THE MOVIE also features interviews with Bec Anthony (Kooky Karaoke co-compere, Little Freddie And The Pops), Lush Aston (The Twits, cartoonist), Joey Bedlam (Doll Squad), Mark Carson (I Spit On Your Gravy), Sam Crassweller (I Spit On Your Gravy), John Durr (The Editions), Paul Elliott (Gong Show, Gravies manager), Paul Fraser (artist, PUB collaborator), Vivienne Gay (The Hanks), Graham Hood (The Johnnys), Kaos (The Fuck Fucks), Ross Knight (Cosmic Psychos), Fiona Leonard (The Gong Show), Steve Lucas (X), Fiona Lee Maynard (Have A Nice Day, Dalicados), Phil “Pog” Miles (I Spit On Your Gravy, The Gravybilllys, The Band Who Shot Liberty Valance), Dave Moll (Shonkytonk, The Fuck Fucks, Black Molls), Dez Negro (Fred’s brother), Millie Negro (Fred’s daughter), Ross Negro (Fred’s brother), Elizabeth Reale (The Peptides, Piranhas In Love co-author), Matt Ryan (Munster Times, The Fierce Urgency Of Now), Sindy Virtue Van Eede (I Spit On Your Gravy), Melynda Von Wayward curator, punk historian), Clinton Walker (rock journalist and historian) and more.
Melbournians will be the first in the world to see Leavold’s latest feature when its premieres at this year’s 70th Melbourne International Film Festival on August 12 followed by encore screenings at the festival on August 18 & 20.
In addition to directing, Leavold shares producing duties with Jonathan Sequeira and Brett Garten (Executive Producer), PUB: THE MOVIE is edited by Benji Steane and with cinematography by Jarret Gahan, Jonathan Sequeira and Matthew Victor Pastor.
