Ti West’s PEARL Finally Gets An Australian Release
If you like us had given up all hope of Ti West‘s X prequel, PEARL, receiving an Australian Cinema release, you’ll be surprised to hear it will see the light of the silver screen from March 16.
When Universal Pictures acquired world rights to the film (in all territories outside of the United States) in mid-November last year, we were hopeful it may release before year’s end and not be another case of Robert Eggers’ THE LIGHTHOUSE with its lengthy delay to theatrical release.
Well rather than ditch it straight to home entertainment or worse… mere streaming, Universal have opted to sublicense the film to Madman locally who are giving the film the theatrical chance it deserves, albeit six months after its U.S. theatrical release.
Filmmaker West returns with another chapter from the twisted world of X, in this astonishing follow-up to last year’s most acclaimed horror film. Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl finds her ambitions, temptations, and repressions all colliding in this stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.
Heads up while the film will release in Cinemas from March 16, you may need travel a little further to see it as it’s currently only listed to play in Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane on a total of four screens. Here’s hoping some more cinemas get announced closer to the opening date otherwise you may be stuck waiting longer for the eventual home entertainment release.
