The 10th annual QUEER SCREEN FILM FESTIVAL arrives at Event Cinemas George Street from August 23-27 and among the latest LGBTIQ+ programming are some genre highlights.

When single mother Saori notices her son Minato has started acting differently she goes to his school desperate for answers. Is he being bullied? Mistreated? When accusations fly the truth becomes harder to pin down, as the film unfurls Rashomon-style across multiple perspectives. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Broker), this deeply human, twisty drama won both the Queer Palm and best screenplay at Cannes.

Stylist extraordinaire Mosca has been killed and the competitors, organisers and models are all at their wits end. Was it a rival, like the easy-to-offend Cleve? Timba, whose afro he was transforming into art? Or perhaps his partner Angel (Luke Pasqualino, Skins) had something to do with it? It’s hairspray at ten paces as suspicions are raised, things heat up and… who’s minding the baby? (There’s a baby.) This unique film unspools in real time, sweeping us up in one very camp, very entertaining, very hirsute whodunnit!
